Lagniappe (LAN-yap, lan-YAP)
“
Lagniappe” originated in French Louisiana, on the Gulf, and spread to southeast Texas. The word means an “unexpected
something added, a little something extra, a surprise that spices up an otherwise ordinary transaction.”
Lagniappe is a small gift that makes people feel special. It´s the thirteenth bagel in a baker´s dozen. It´s a free dessert
on your birthday. It´s the sweet tea that a good waitress leaves off her favorite regular´s bill.
“Lagniappe” has always been a special word for me because I love giving gifts, and especially the concept of “a little something
extra.” Meals can be a transaction, a routine need met without much thought, or they can be an experience, a stage of rich conversation,
abundant laughter, heartfelt sharing, and deep intimacy.
My goal with Lagniappe is to help build that stage for other people, to bring that “little something extra,” which is often missing.
Why should you care about Lagniappe?
Lagniappe recalls a time when neighbors knew and took care of each other, and I created Lagniappe Personal Catering with this spirit in mind,
this idea that giving is its own reward. Sure, a restaurant can serve food, but home delivery, generous portions, and meals matching your tastes
provide a different experience altogether.
I´ve baked in Ethiopia and South Africa. I´ve cooked for two, and I´ve cooked for forty. I´ve given the gift of Lagniappe
for memorable evenings with old friends and to corporate fundraisers, and one bright thread shows up in this tapestry of events: Lagniappe brings
people together—families, couples, coworkers, friends, and neighbors.
What do I do? Simply give people a chance to spend time together. My passion is setting a fabulous table and creating an opportunity for people to
laugh, love, and communicate.
Now that you´ve been introduced to Lagniappe Personal Catering and understand why I love what I do, I hope you´ll get in touch and give
me the privilege of cooking for you. I create memorable meals to help my clients remember what is most important: intimate relationships.
Easier than Drive-through, Better for You
You have to eat, but you don´t always have time or desire to cook. You know your family should spend time together, but fast food falls short of your expectations. Lagniappe gives you a way to provide for your family without having to go to the grocery store, look up recipes, and cook. Lagniappe also enables people to bless their friends during hard, busy, or painful seasons by providing them with a memorable meal.
What does a homemade chicken pot pie have that a Big Mac doesn´t? Lagniappe will help you answer that question.
Lagniappe isn´t for Everyone
If you are a working mom or you have friends with babies, then you already know why Lagniappe is exciting, but Lagniappe isn´t for everyone. I´ve already heard plenty of objections: “For that price, I could just get take-out”or “Oh, my husband would never let me pay that just to get out of cooking.”
However, if you´re ready for a nice break from takeout and understand the value of a home-cooked meal, as opposed to just the cost, then Lagniappe will bring something special to your table. Or, if you hate cooking but want to give your friends or extended family a great meal, then Lagniappe is the perfect gift.
I´m here to offer the blessing of good food and fellowship.
